Week 5 saw another undefeated team go down leaving us only with tonight’s Niners and the Cheaters of New England left. The Niners are coming off a very early bye to face a Browns team that hopes to have figured some things out offensively after running roughshod over Baltimore’s defense to the tune of 40 points. Cleveland certainly had high hopes to begin the year and are fortunate that the rest of their division looks to be just as Jekyll & Hyde as they are.
The Browns come into tonight’s contest looking to build off the 530 yards they gained last week against the Ravens. After a couple lackluster performances that saw Kitchens getting dragged mercilessly on social media, Baker and the Boys bounced back in a big way. Now they come into San Francisco, who have been no slouches defensively to start the year, giving up just 4.7 YPP, on par with Chicago for 4th in the league. The key for tonight for the Browns is gonna have to be Nick Chubb. He dominated the game against Baltimore and keeping Kyle Shanahan’s offense off the field is gonna be crucial to winning this one.
San Francisco has been dominant to start the year, albeit against a pretty soft schedule. They’ll have a lot to prove these next couple weeks with games against the Browns and Rams. Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy G have set the world on fire, averaging a blistering 6.3 YPP and converting 49% of their 3rd downs. TE George Kittle is going to be the biggest matchup problem for the Browns defense. After a slow start to the season, look for Shanahan to get him involved often, especially against a Browns defense that has been straight up stifling on 3rd downs this year, allowing a conversion rate of just 29%.
Couldn’t have been more wrong, as is tradition, on the total on Thursday, as a shootout broke out in the 2nd half. Naturally, I try to be frugal and lay the whopping -1.5 points and still get burned. 3rd time since 2003 a 1.5 point favorite won and didn’t cover so we have that going for us. Looking to bounce back with Baker and the Dawg Pound tonight. This is simply too many points to lay with the 49ers. I understand they’ve had an excellent defense so far but they haven’t played a single team of worth in my opinion. San Francisco has had the benefit of playing a backup QB and another tanking team in Cincinnati. They’re gonna have one last “prove it” game before we see if they can hang with the best of the NFC West.
