Week 8 concludes with one of the worst games of the year between the Steelers and Dolphins. This schedule is really such a disgrace. The Steelers already had a layup game at home against Cincinnati on MNF like a month ago, so Roger decided to give them another gimme in primetime? And the Dolphins? Seriously? We knew they had the potential to be one of the worst teams of all-time 6 months ago, and yet the NFL gives ESPN the middle finger again and gives them this garbage. Ryan Fitzpatrick! Mason Rudolph! Feel the excitement!
The Steelers, if nothing else can be taken away from this year, at least get to see what they have in Mason Rudolph in a preview for life after Big Ben. Rudolph has been serviceable in his four games in relief, with his best game coming in the aforementioned game vs Cincy. Lucky for him he gets to play a team even worse tonight. This will be his first action after getting KOed against Baltimore in a vicious hit to the head that actually knocked him unconscious. It’s really tough to put any stock into any of the Steelers offensive metrics since they’ve had a revolving door at the most important position on the field. Defensively however, Pittsburgh has had a decent year. They’re 9th in the league in YPP, including 2nd in the last 3 games. They’re a top 10 rush defense as well, which means they’ll be looking to make Fitzmagic beat them through the air tonight.
The Dolphins are a fucking embarassment to the game. They’ve insulted their fans, and any fan of the NFL, with their performance thus far. How can you ask 53 guys to go out and kill themselves weekly when you have the sole intention of losing every single week? How can you ask your fans to spend money on what has potential to be the worst team in NFL history, and not by accident? Let’s run through the numbers just to have a good laugh shall we? Bottom quarter in rush defense, dead last in pass defense, dead last in YPP allowed, dead last in PPG allowed, and 31st in YPP. Is that enough? Should I keep going? This team fucking stinks and the front office should be fined for such a blatant tank job. It’s a different thing to tank in baseball or basketball where top end talent can make a difference the next year, oh, and the players can’t die on the field playing the game.
Thursday night fuckery was in full effect as we actually got good Kirk to come out and play, Dalvin Cook ran roughshod, and yet, Zimmer and co. decided to run out the clock from the opening kickoff. Not sure why they would go so conservative from start to finish, nothing says contender like kicking a shit ton of field goals I guess. Someone would have to pay me to entertain betting on the Dolphins this year. We’re gonna fade in a couple different ways, what can possibly go wrong?
