Betting expert @SBJohn12 previews this week’s NFL MNF matchup and gives out his favorite bets!
Week 15 concludes with arguably the worst game of the week between the 11-2 Steelers and the 2-10-1 Bengals. The Steelers have dropped two straight, surrendering the #1 seed and first round bye to Kansas City. It’s a “mUsT-WiN” for Pittsburgh, who can clinch the division and thus, a home game in the playoffs, with a win tonight. The Bengals have dropped 5 straight, haven’t really been competitive since Joe Burrow was lost for the season, and we have no reason to believe they will be tonight either.
The Bengals have gone 4-24-1 in the last two seasons. When things finally started coming alive under #1 overall pick Burrow, he tore his ACL against Washington. The Bengals OL was and has been a disgrace all season, as the poor rookie was seen running for his life for three hours while being asked to throw 50+ times a game. You would have to imagine reshaping both trenches will be a top priority this offseason and next for Cincinnati. Things change fast in the NFL, but the Bengals still seem two years away from being a year away, and that’s only if Taylor does end up being competent. With Burrow gone, Cincy has managed to score 31 points in the last 3.5 games. Seems bad! Luckily for them they get to go up against one of the best defenses in the NFL tonight, looking to bounce back from two losses.
Pittsburgh started 11-0, but most of us knew they weren’t as good as their record, with wins against multiple backup QBs and against the easiest schedule in the league. This is still a good football team, but their inability to run the ball could cost them dearly next month. The Steelers are dead last in yards per carry, averaging a paltry 3.7. This shouldn’t matter tonight, thankfully for them, but it was on full display last week against Buffalo. Mike Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger will always prefer to go 5 wide and let Ben do his thing, but how many more seasons can he do this? The defense has been their strength all season, but the injury bug is slowly making it around the building. I do expect Pittsburgh to make life hell regardless, for whoever is taking snaps under center for Cincy tonight, whether it’s Brandon Allen or Ryan Finley. Either of those guys inspire hope for you tonight, Bengals fans?
We had a baby sweep on Thursday with Herbert and the Chargers coming through in OT to give us the over we needed. This is the second to last Monday Night game of the year, and there really isn’t anything that’s popping off the board. I’m almost never comfortable with these huge spreads, and typically we’ll look to the prop or derivative in games such as these. Let’s ask the Steelers defense to take us home, then watch in agony as Roethlisberger throws a pick six.
