Betting expert @SBJohn12 previews this week’s NFL MNF matchup and gives out his favorite bets!
Monday night concludes Week 8 with the resurgent Tom Brady and Tampa Bay go up to New Jersey to waste their, and our, time against the hapless Football Giants of New York. I know I say this every year but how is it 2020 and we haven’t been able to flex these Monday Night games yet? COVID has shown we can reschedule these games from day to day with few broadcasting issues, it makes no sense! But alas, we’ll try to watch the Giants score against a stout Bucs defense.
Brady faces his one true nemesis of a franchise, but this year’s version of the Giants is just a shade less scary than the versions he lost to in two different Super Bowls. New York has been a disaster in the Dave Gettleman era, with little to no hope this year of improving. They’re 1-6 so far with the 29th ranked offense in YPP facing off against the 2nd ranked defense in YPP. Daniel Jones is certainly up against it tonight, and he is going to have to put together a masterpiece to have the Giants keep pace with the Eagles in the division (I can’t believe I just typed that, God bless the NFC East). He’ll also need some help from the Giants defense, and their pass rush is going to be key in slowing down a red-hot Brady who’s put up an 18:1 TD/INT ratio in their last 5 games.
Tampa Bay has looked like one of the favorites in the NFC for the last month and half, with both sides of the ball imposing their will on their opponents. The Bucs defense picked up where they left off last year, with a dominating front seven translating into a top 5 rush defense. The difference between this year’s Bucs and last is obviously the revamped offense led by Brady. Bringing in Gronk and Leonard Fournette, HC Bruce Arians is going all-in this year with an aging but talented roster. I expect Tampa to enforce their will defensively all night, with Brady putting together a handful of drives to get out of the Meadowlands with a comfortable win.
We got off to a hot start last week with the Panthers cashing our 1st half team total bet… aaand then mailed it in in the 2nd half. Tough losing matchup there. Tonight’s spread is exorbitant in my opinion. I know the Giants are horrible, but damn near two TDs at home horrible? The Giants defense has been right about league average, if they can contain Brady and co. for just a bit, I think they’ll have a great chance to win (against the spread). I’ve loved the Bucs defense all year and was hoping for a good chance to bet the Giants team total under, but the line is spot on, right at 16.5/17.
