Betting expert @SBJohn12 previews this week’s NFL MNF matchup and gives out his favorite bets!
Week 9 concludes with one of the worst games of the week, as is tradition, as we are held hostage, again, with the New England Patriots taking on the worthless New York Jets. This would’ve been a fine matchup a handful of years ago, but with the Patriots demise seemingly upon us, and Jets gon’ Jets, we’re in for what can only be described as a shitnami storm. Both teams are effectively eliminated from playoff contention, miles away from a division title as the Bills lap the field, so why is this on primetime again? But with another game comes more betting opportunities, and we exploit an edge wherever we can find them.
The Patriots are in one of the most unique situations in the league. Given Belichick’s deserved reputation as the GOAT HC, people were properly freaking out when they signed Cam Newton as an FA. But, a month into the season SuperCam got COVID and has looked positively awful ever since. We still don’t know about the long-term health effects of the virus, so it’s tough to really say if he feels 100% just yet. What we do know is that in the three games since his return Cam is 41/65 for 429 yards, with 0 TDs/5 INTs, 149 yards rushing and 2 TDs. That’s certainly a far cry from the former league MVP Belichick thought he was signing last offseason. You’d have to think Bill is gonna have a shorter leash if he struggles against the worst team in the league tonight.
The Jets, well, they stink. And they should stink even harder tonight with Sam Darnold doubtful with a shoulder injury. Which means it’s Joe Flacco time! Flacco hasn’t had a good string of games since his aberration postseason 8 years ago and I don’t expect him to start now. New England’s DPOY in 2019 Stephon Gilmore will be out which makes things a little easier for the OG Sleepy Joe, but this Jets team is so devoid of talent, and led by an arrogant sack of ineptitude in HC Adam Gase, it’s going to be a huge uphill battle for 60 minutes tonight. If the Jets have any hope for their first win of the season tonight, they’re going to have to make this game a defensive grinder in my opinion.
Thursday Night was most excellent to us as we nabbed a 3-0 sweep as Aaron Rodgers crushed his hometown Niners. We’re back in the black (again) on the year, and naturally we have a truly difficult game to work with to keep this run going. I’ll be looking for both defenses to be impactful tonight, ending up in a low scoring affair that will make us regret watching midway through the 2nd quarter. But we take any edge we can get out here, and we fire.
