Week 8 kicks off with another true barnburner between the Vikings and Deadskins. Nothing quite says primetime like a 16-point spread, I always say. I can’t remember a season where so many middle-of-the-road teams were such enormous favorites, but the Dolphins, Bengals, and Redskins are setting new records for futility every week. In fact, so far, the only game Washington has been competitive in has been against one of their fellow tankers when they won in Miami two weeks ago. Minnesota has turned it around offensively the last three weeks, are 5-2, and are in a race with Green Bay for tops in the NFC North. These are two teams going in different directions to say the least.
The Vikings are a game back of Green Bay, and should easily hold serve tonight. After WRs Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen publicly called out the shittiness of Kirk Cousins and his refusal to take chances, Cousins turned in hell of a last three weeks. Kirk has churned out 971 yards, 10 touchdowns, and just one INT against the Giants, Eagles and Lions. And while none of those defenses are exactly the 2000 Ravens, I don’t anticipate the Redskins to fare much better. Washington has almost exactly a league average defense in YPP and YPA, but Minnesota is tops in the league the last three games in YPP and third overall. Maybe Kirk just needed to be called out to awaken from his slumber, because they have been lighting it up offensively.
The Redskins are tanking. That’s simply all there is too it. They fired Jay Gruden, promoted a fossil in Bill Callahan to be interim Head Coach, and are firmly behind Callahan’s obsession with establishing the run. While other teams are slowly getting more aggressive, the Redskins want to make sure the most inefficient part of offense is “established”. I guess it can’t get too much worse, Washington has already started three different QBs so far, and still can’t figure it out. Whenever you can draft a QB in the first round and then not play him so you can see what you have in Colt McCoy and Case Keenum, you have to do it. Normally, you would just be able to talk about Dan Snyder and his horribleness, but this is organizational failure from top to bottom. It’s insane they aren’t getting Dwayne Haskins reps right now, but these are the Redskins we’re talking about. Related, Washington is 28th in YPP so far through six games. But sure, keep the kid on the bench, makes sense.
Week 7 came to a close with another primetime thriller! So glad we got to see Sam Darnold do his best Ryan Leaf impression against New England, what a game. Speaking of incompetence, the Jets didn’t even have someone to filter out “Mic’d Up” quotes, and now all of American knows that Darnold was shook and “seeing ghosts” against the NE defense. Luckily for us, it really was that simple, with an easy cover for the win.
