Atlanta Falcons
Odds to win the NFC South: +380
Odds to win the Super Bowl: +3450
2018 record: 7-9
Over/Under wins: 9 over +126/-150
Matt Ryan and the Falcons will again have a top 10 offense, but will the defense hold up to take them back to the playoffs? The defense shouldn’t be bad but since they’re just an average unit, they will have to play better for the Falcons to keep up with division favorite New Orleans. The division also doesn’t have any easy game as the Panthers are good and the Bucs should be better than last year. The future prices on the Falcons seem pretty fair considering New Orleans is far and away the best team in the division.
Carolina Panthers
Odds to win the NFC South: +370
Odds to win the Super Bowl: +4480
2018 record: 7-9
Over/Under wins: 7.5 over -184/+153
The Panthers are one of the most intriguing teams going into this season mainly because it looks like Cam Newton’s shoulder is healthy. He has fooled us before but if he is healthy throwing the ball, this offense is very versatile. The defense should be above average which should get the job done if Cam is actually healthy. They’re on par with division rival Atlanta and still a good bit inferior to New Orleans but the versatility of their offense could give them the push to be the division’s second best. They’re priced slightly better than Atlanta to win the division but have longer odds to win the Super Bowl, which is interesting. However, there isn’t much reason to get involved with Carolina until we see if Cam is healthy.
New Orleans Saints
Odds to win the NFC South: -153
Odds to win the Super Bowl: +913
2018 record: 13-3
Over/Under wins: 10.5 over +138/-165
There isn’t much uncertainty with New Orleans this season; Sean Payton is still the coach, Drew Brees is still the quarterback, Alvin Kamara is going to get a ton of touches, Michael Thomas is going to catch a lot of passes. The offense, again, should be at the top of the NFL and the defense is plenty to compliment the high-powered offensive attack. The Saints are rightfully the favorite in the NFC South and as long as Drew Brees doesn’t give in to Father Time, they should make a run in the NFC playoffs.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Odds to win the NFC South: +1265
Odds to win the Super Bowl: +8235
2018 record: 5-11
Over/Under wins: 6.5 over -101/-117
Not a lot went right for the Bucs last season. They led the league in games lost due to injury and Jameis Winston missed a lot of time with injury leading to Ryan Fitzpatrick getting plenty of reps behind center. It’s never good when you have to play Ryan Fitzpatrick. Winston is now healthy, and the Bucs get an upgrade at head coach with Bruce Arians now in charge. The offense should be a league average unit with the defense still below average but better than last year after adding Ndamukong Suh. The rest of the division is much better, but the Bucs should improve and give teams some tough games. There isn’t much value considering the current prices in the futures market unless more money comes in on the win total under, then maybe look towards the win total over.
