The Course: Sedgefield CC
This is an old style golf course that puts an emphasis on accuracy off the tee and precise approach shots particularly from 120-160 yards. We have seen low scores here in the past (Snedeker shot 59 last year) and expect low scores again this year based on current course conditions and expected weather. The Tour has played this course the last dozen years so we have a pretty reliable history and basis to determine what skills are needed. One interesting correlation is success being Sedgefield and TPC Sawgrass. 5 of the last 8 winners of this event have also won the Players Championship (S Kim, Love III, Garcia, Stenson, Simpson). One other interesting variable in play this week is that this is the final event of the regular season before the playoffs start next week. The top 125 in standings advance after this week and retain status for next season. Players outside the top 125 will not be fully exempt for next year and will have to go through a qualifying school set of tournaments to gain full access to the PGA Tour again. Interesting note is that Martin Kaymer is 146th in standings and won the Players in 2014. He is a model of consistency and should easily make the cut this week as he needs a high finish to retain his status for next year (one of best values on DK Sportsbook this week is the Make Cut for Kaymer).
